Jeriod was diagnosed with Rubinstein -Taybi syndrome within 48 hrs of his birth. His thumbs, feeding problems and facial features were the giveaway for the doctors. He had to stay in the hospital for 10 days due to his breathing and feeding complications.
The day I was able to bring him home was the greatest. He has been thru 2 surgeries, one for dislocated knee caps, and the other to lengthen his hamstrings so he could straighten his legs all the way. He goes to physical therapy and speech therapy. He loves to swim, swing, bowl, and Barney.
He is almost 12 years old. He is in middle school now, which scares me to death since he is so much smaller than the kids his age. But he is a trooper, and no matter where he goes and who he meets, he manages to win over every heart.
So I know God is watching over him. He has to wear braces on his legs in order to walk independently. He usually uses a walker too, for safety. In his 12 yrs alive he has been through more than most people I know, yet he is one of the happiest people I have ever encountered.
It makes me feel blessed that the Lord chose me to be his mother, it has made me a better person. He has opened my eyes to all the joy and happiness life can bring if you just stop and look.
