Andrew is now 2 years and 5 months.  He began taking a few independent steps around his second birthday, and is now very confident in his walking.  (His parents, grandparents and brother, however, are nervous wrecks!)  He has also begun using the signs for “all done” and “more”.

Although only at a 12 month level for his physical and “cognitive” capabilities, emotionally, he is deeply entrenched in the “terrible twos.”  He is very decisive in what he wants, and his inability to talk frustrates him. Each time someone figures out his system of communicating (choosing a picture, being physically pushed or pulled by Andrew, or his pointing for an object), it is a huge, gratifying accomplishment both for Andrew and the person he is communicating with.

Andrew continues to see a private physical therapist once a week, and he is wearing SMOs in his shoes.   He also receives Early Intervention services twice a week for a mix of speech, OT and PT, however, this service will end October, 2002 when Andrew turns three.  We expect that he will enter the public school system for Special Education services at that time.

Andrew continues to brighten the lives of all those who know him.  His accomplishments become “great feats” and are an example of his strength, determination, willpower and resolve.
