Our Daughter, Our Son

by Katherine Yost

When our daughter was born,
we saw in her eyes,
such a bright future,
the limits the sky!

Ten perfect fingers,
and ten perfect toes.
We were so proud,
as any parent could know!

When our son was first born,
our eyes filled with tears.
What was wrong with our baby?
Our hearts filled with fear!

Ten funny fingers,
and ten funny toes,
a syndrome, they tell us,
no parent should know!

Samantha, our daughter,
you're as bright as a star.
No matter what you become,
we know you'll go far!

Roger, our son, oh
how far can you go?
Will you ever say "Mommy"?
Only God truly knows!

Sammie and RJ,
our daughter and son,
your futures wide open
your lives just begun!

No matter the outcome,
no matter how far,
we love you so much,
the way that you are!
