YEA! CHRISTOPHER

By Brenda LaPointe

I look at you in awe, not quite believing the beautiful person you are ...
inside and out.
Your happy face and engaging smile brightens every place you go,
for a moment, or for hours.

How little it takes to make you happy.
The look of pure joy on your little face when anyone claps and says
"Yea, Christopher!" for whatever it is you've accomplished -
no matter how insignificant.
The recognition alone delights you.

The sparkle in those remarkable eyes,
The mischievous look when you're teasing someone.
The body language when letting people know what you want or need.
If we listen to you ... really listen with our hearts and minds ... we
understand.

You cannot talk, but you do communicate, and make yourself understood.
If we pay attention we could learn from you ...
Important things, like smelling flowers, watching ants build a hill,
Waiving hello to the clouds.

It does a heart good to see that little ray of sunshine in a six year old
boy who cannot talk, but does communicate.
Pay attention and you will learn, and in spite of yourself,
You'll be saying, "Yea! Christopher".
