Melissa

Melissa

When you came into my life, you turned it upside down

I thought I'd be your mentor, instead became your clown,

A horse on hands and knees for you,

An aeroplane bringing you your food,

Singing songs deep in the night,

Promising not to douse the light.

You grew in stature and in might

Less so in feet, and not much in height!

My cabbage patch doll with smile so sweet

I smuggled you chocolates from school to eat

I told you tales to make you laugh

I held you close until sobs had passed.

Did I ever tell you what you did for me?

If not, read on, it's something to see

My sister, my friend, my teacher, my love

You were an angel sent from above

You taught me humility, patience, courage

Perseverance, strength and other non-rhyming words!!!

But most of all, Melissa, you gave me you

A precious gift, which I'll cherish till my days are through.
